I recently found out that I am allergic to potassium dichromate and I need to wear shoes that don’t contain it. It is used in tanning leather but some non-leather shoes contain it also. I am having a really difficult time getting answers from many shoe companies too.

i have been dancing for as long as i can remember and recently went vegan after four years of being a vegetarian.
now im at a loss at where to find leather free dance shoes or if it is even possible.
these are the shoes i currently use that are leather, and i hate them for that reason.

tap shoes
slip on jazz shoes.
ballet shoes (i can probably just switch to canvas for those)
and dance paws
i also think that the shank of my pointe shoes may be leather as well, but im not sure.

please help. :}

Have you tried Zappos.com? I know they have a large vegan variety, although I am not sure about dance ;o)

OK, can’t help you with finding shoes, but just want to say, don’t feel guilty about your leather shoes. A lot of vegans keep their leather shoes and belts after they become vegans, until they wear them out, then they replace with non-leather materials. It’s about reducing, reusing, recycling, and it’s completely acceptable

Hello, I am planning to buy vegetarian shoes for the first time. At first I thought it was impossible to find fashionable cruelty-free shoes, especially for men, but at the Web I came accross some really good quality brands e.g. at www.noharm.co.uk and www.bboheme.com. I wonder if your fashonitas out there no any more fashionable leather-free shoes. So what are the best brands for men’s shoes IYO and what are the things you should take into account when ordering through the Internet?

Technically, most shoes on the market today are vegan-friendly. Whenever you see "man-made leather" it’s not actually from cowhide or any animal at all. According to a website I visited, this is what man-made leather is:

Leather that has been created from products not from a natural animal hide. Usually made from a combination of Plastic, Rubber and/or Synthetic that has been bonded to a fabric backing.

For sneakers, most are made out of PVC/man-made materials anyway, so just go to a store, read the labels, and try on ones you like.

I think it’s better to pay a little more money for an authorized website/dealer with a good returns and refunds policy so that if your order gets lost or you get the wrong size, etc. you can easily remedy that. As far as style goes, as long as the shoes are well-made and look appropriate for the outfit, there’s no brand of shoe better than another.

I have a 5yr old who is Anaphylactic to Latex (Natural Rubber Latex, NRL) and I am having a hard time finding latex free shoes for her. To complicate things, she has severe eczema so needs something soft. Firm leather shoes hurt her skin. Any help much appreciated!
